Topic: “Sharing on King IV – Technology and Information Governance focusing on Cyber Security”
The advances in technology and digitisation are revolutionising businesses and societies. These developments comes associated risk that needs to be managed. As cybersecurity risks increase exponentially, Board members and IT security professionals face the daunting real-world challenge of protecting their company’s most valuable information from theft and loss.
The King IV Code sets out the governance principles, roles and responsibilities which serve as the benchmark for corporate governance in South Africa, the code includes the Technology and Information governance and practices.
The session is intended to encourage engagement and networking with different stakeholders around IT governance and Cybersecurity with special emphasis on how these are referenced in King IV and how governing bodies can be proactive in ensuring that technology and information can be leverage for growth. The session will include discussion on control measures to mitigate cyber-risks and strengthen cybersecurity controls.
Kudakwashe Charandura is a seasoned IT audit, risk and cybersecurity professional with at least 15 years experience. He has serviced various industries in South Africa, Zimbabwe, Namibia and Zambia, including Energy and Power companies, Public Sector, Financial Sector, Agricultural sector, Manufacturing, Mining, Aviation and Telecommunications companies. His experience includes advising various clients on how to effectively manage cyber-risks, highlighting measures to secure and protect information stored and processed on computers.
Before joining SNG he worked for Old Mutual Central Africa as Information Systems Auditor and then Grant Thornton Zambia as IT Audit Consultant. He worked on a number of Old Mutual Group Internal Audit assignments which included system implementation reviews, inter-bank money transfer systems control reviews, Group applications control reviews and general control reviews.
While at Grant Thornton Zambia he serviced a number of clients across different industries. Kudakwashe moved to South Africa in October 2010 and joined SNG. Since joining the firm he has consistently provided services across various SNG clients. His in-depth IT Security, Audit and Risks experience backed by his exposure to various IT systems and industries, has seen him completing a wide range of assignments including network vulnerability assessments, attack and penetration testing, security assessments across operating systems, databases, mobile applications and web servers, ERP security, project governance and system implementation etc.
